Blog of the Week - October 29, 2006
This week’s Blog of the Week is GettingFinancesDone, a blog whose purpose is to be a stress-free guide to financial control. GFD hasn’t been around long but has had the fortune of being featured on Lifehacker a couple of times, which gave it instant creditability. Lifehacker or not, GFD is a good personal finance blog. SSpeer, the blog’s author, doesn’t have time to update the blog often (once a month or so) but when he does update it, it is usually a thoughtful entry. It makes for some good Sunday reading.
Blog of the Week - October 22, 2006
This week’s Blog of the Week is FinancialRounds, a blog written by a economics and finance professor from the Northeast. As far as blogs go, his blog has been around forever (February 2005). He blogs under the name “Unknown Professor” (I call him “UP”). Anyway, as a professor he doesn’t have a lot of time to blog but he does update his blog a couple times a week, usually with links to interesting stories he finds or anything else that’s on his mind.
I also consider UP my friend. He has always been very helpful to me whenever I have needed help with a post. So, do me a favor and go check out FinancialRounds.
Blog of the Week - October 15, 2006
This week’s Blog of the Week is MedicatedMoney, which was started by husband and wife as a way to overhaul their finances. It seems to me that a lot of personal finance blogs are founded this way. Anyway I think it is great that they are taking steps to get their finances on the right track. I’m not exactly sure where they are now, but I know that at one time they had nearly $95,000 in student loans. That’s a lot of debt! However, they are both in the medical field and as long as they keep their expenses low, they should be able to pay off those loans fairly quickly. Still, it is a shame that so many young people start out with so much debt.
Anyway, I wish Mr. & Mrs. (or is it Dr.?) Medicated well.
Blog of the Week - October 8, 2006
This week’s Blog of the Week is We’re in Debt. As you can probably tell from the blog’s title, this blog is about a couple in debt. I thought their subtitle was interesting:
Actually once they pay off all their debt, a net worth of $0 would be impossible if they own any assets. But, I understand the spirit of that statement.
Anyway, I made We’re in Debt Blog of the Week for two reasons:
1. I want to bring attention to ANYONE trying to do the right thing with their finances.
2. I want my readers to offer them encouragement because getting out of debt can be a tough road at times.
I just have one question for the couple:
Blog of the Week - October 1, 2006
Sorry folks. I’ve been falling down on my job.
This week’s Blog of the Week goes to PennyFoolish, a blog written by a 22-year old recent college grad. I enjoy reading Kira’s stuff because she has a lot of common sense. Kira also came up with the idea of the Under 30 Honor Roll, which is a network of under-30 personal finance bloggers. I’m too old to be a member but I think it is a great idea.
Anyway, I have no doubt that as long as she practices what she writes, she will reach all of her financial goals.
